Chris Thompson

Chris Thompson was appointed Deputy Chairman of One NorthEast with effect from 20 October 2006.

Chris Thompson is Chief Executive of the Express Group that provides engineering, design, product development and manufacturing services to the aerospace and defence, medical and scientific and oil and gas sectors. Chris has built a successful and profitable international group in the demanding manufacturing sector, attaining a group turnover of £35M, which has generated significant wealth for stakeholders and valuable exports for the North East region.

A determination to meet the needs of customers has seen continuous development and investment in people and frontier technology. The growth of the group has been fuelled by Chris' ability to read the market and respond quickly to opportunities. He has formed several international joint ventures and partnerships and established over 40 new enterprises.

Chris has inspired and contributed to the implementation of several successful Public/Private sector partnership projects that are contributing to regional regeneration strategies.

Chris is Chairman of the TyneWear Parntership, is a founder member of Nstar and Chair of the North East Employer Coalition.  Chris is not politically active and does not hold any ministerial appointments.
