Enterprising North East England 2009

Enterprising North East England 2009 is part of Enterprising Britain is a nationwide competition to find the most enterprising place in the UK – a location where enterprise is creating jobs and transforming communities – both of which are vital during these uncertain economic times. The competition is now in its fifth year and is (especially in the current economic climate) a key part of the Government’s drive to increase and support entrepreneurial activity.

Enterprising Britain 2009 will have two distinct stages:

  • A regional competition managed by the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) and Devolved Administrations in partnership with Make Your Mark.
  • A national competition, run by the Make Your Mark campaign, on behalf of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR).

Enterprising Britain aims to:

  • Encourage people to get involved and make their ideas happen, whether it is in school, at home or at work and inspire the next wave of entrepreneurs;
  • Celebrate the success of pioneering examples of enterprising places throughout the UK;
    Provide inspiration for others to do more to support enterprise in their area and weather the economic storm, ready to emerge stronger.
  • Enterprising Britain is open to all places (in the UK) that can demonstrate how they have transformed the community through enterprise over the last two years.

All entrants must represent an identifiable geographic area, such as a town, a city, a parish or neighbourhood and be able to demonstrate that enterprise is central to the economic and/or social transformation of the place.

The competition is also used to identify the UK entries to the European Enterprise Awards. Further information about the awards can be found at:
