Holmeside
This site is linked to the Vaux site for strategic reasons and has been identified as key to the City Centre regeneration strategy to balance the city core and revitalise an area formerly characterised by intense city-centre activity. The proposal for this 2.93 hectare (7.26 acre) site is for a superstore of up to 10,250 sq m, up to 23,000 sq m of retail, a mixture of leisure uses totalling 7,000 sq m, up to 100 new homes, and approximately 400 new car-parking spaces and a new public space. During the period 2005-2008, it is anticipated that public sector funding will be required to interact with the private funding process, which will be jointly undertaken for the Vaux and for the Holmeside schemes. Once appointed, it is proposed that the private-sector funder and developer would prepare a detailed planning application, initially for Phase 1, with a view to securing planning consent and commencing works on site.
