IGNITE
IGNITE is the Regional Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Communities for North East England. IGNITE co-ordinates and better informs regeneration practitioners who are involved in the challenging task of planning, developing and maintaining sustainable communities. In North East England there are about 280 organisations involved in this regeneration activity. What makes IGNITE special is that it is an interactive knowledge management system and learning network which will ensure that the impact of our efforts are amplified across the region
IGNITE is easy to use; once you have registered, you will have access to a number of features.
- The electronic library allows you to search a repository of unpublished regional reports. You can save information into your personalised action plans that allows you to return to them at your leisure, or even email to your colleagues.
- The collaborate area facilitates cross-occupational activity. This means that if you are working with colleagues from different organisations on a project, IGNITE can give you a private or public work space. In this space you can store and share documents, create actions for one another, and participate in online discussions.
- The events calendar shows you what’s going on, not just the usual conferences and courses but also master classes, action learning programmes and continuing professional development events.
- The fortnightly electronic newsletter keeps you informed of the latest events and documents on IGNITE.

IGNITE is one of nine regional centres set up in response to the need to improve the quality of places and regeneration skills as outlined in reports such as the Urban Task Force Report in 1999, and more recently in the Egan Skills Review.
Launched in February 2006, IGNITE is a collaboration between English Partnerships, Government Office for the North East, and ONE NorthEast.
