Environment

The environment of North East England is an asset that has an important contribution to make to sustained economic development.  The environment is the urban and rural context in which we live our lives.  It is the water, land, air and biodiversity around us.  It is also the built and natural environment

Core to Agency engagement with business, One NorthEast plays a major role in co-ordinating the regional delivery of national programmes funded through the Business Resource Efficiency and Waste (BREW) programme. These include Envirowise, the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) and the Carbon Trust.  One NorthEast will also contribute to the Government’s Framework for Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP).

As a response to increasing recognition of the importance of the environment, and a growing national agenda around issues such as environmental technologies and climate change the North East Environment Forum has worked with members of the environment sector to produce an appropriate Environmental Strategy.  The North East Strategy for the Environment demonstrates the links across businesses, people and places of the North East.  The North East Strategy for the Environment contains three main themes - Sustainable Communities, Resource Management and Environmental Infrastructure.
