2002 (previous) Regional Economic Strategy
Realising Our Potential - the current regional Economic Strategy
Since the Regional Economic Strategy was launched in 1999, there have been significant changes - in the world economy, in the UK and in the region itself. If the North East is to look forward and adequately prepare for opportunities and threats ahead, it is essential that the region identifies what has been implemented in the past three years, what has worked and what has not and plans its future course accordingly.
After a twelve week public consultation in which some 2,000 individuals from across the North East were involved, Realising Our Potential, the 2002 update of the regional Economic Strategy, was published.
The Executive summary gives the key messages of Realising Our Potential:
The vision set in Realising Our Potential is underpinned by six interdependent objectives:
Creating Wealth by Raising the Productivity of all Businesses (B1)
Establishing a New Entrepreneurial Culture (B2)
Creating a Healthy Labour Market Supported by a Skilled Workforce (B3)
Recognising Our Universities and Colleges at the Heart of the region's Economy (B4)
Meet 21st Century Transport, Communication and Property Needs (B5)
Realising the Renaissance of our Rural and Urban Communities (B6)
- Creating a more sustainable north east
